Compression Fractures

The bones that make up the spine called vertebrae are very strong but sometimes fractures can occur just like any other bone in your body.

Vertebral fractures can be due to conditions such as osteoporosis. This is a condition weakening bones leaving the bones susceptible to fractures. Traumatic injuries causing compression to the vertebral body can also result in compression fractures.

When a bone in the spine collapses, it is called a vertebral compression fracture. These fractures happen most commonly in the thoracic spine, the middle portion of the spine, particularly in the lower vertebrae of the thoracic spine and sometimes the lumbar spine.
