Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury
The anterior cruciate ligament can be injured during sports activities or any type of movement that puts stress on this ligament and the related anatomical structures.
Athletes who participate in high demand sports like soccer, football, and basketball are more prone to injure the anterior cruciate ligament.
Changing direction rapidly or landing from a jump incorrectly can cause the ACL to tear. About half of all injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament occur along with damage to other structures in the knee, such as articular cartilage, meniscus, or other ligaments.
